Its animal prints, garish frames and long wooden deck could come straight from the Hollywood Hills, but The Winery hails from our very own Kings Cross. Its sister bar, Gazebo, has long been an eastern suburb stalwart, offering a range of local wines, strong cocktails and a menu that jumps from minced veal to mussels.
The Surry Hills incarnation maintains the menu and aesthetic quirks, but brings the kind of hype that requires a maitre d' with a clip board. It therefore goes without saying that you must book if you want to fully enjoy The Winery experience. The place works well for both larger groups and couples, but not if you get politely turned away at the door.
