Places to Be

Back

Doctor Pong, Sydney

Sydney recently welcomed a surge in smaller drinking venues, especially on Burton Street in Darlinghurst. First there was Pocket (Time Out Sydney's 'Small bar of the year'), then there was The Commons - a stately drinking feature in a 160-year-old cottage - and now there is Doctor Pong.

The Pong in this bar has nothing to do with scent and everything to do with ping pong. It also means open windows that look across Burton Street, beer in keg cups and pounding music. This is the kind of place that you come with a group to drink lots, dance and perhaps eat a little (our favourite is the 'jug of prawns' and 'jug of beer' special). If you're sick of plasma screens and partial to ping pong, then Doctor Pong's your guy.

Doctor Pong, 1a Burton St, Darlinghurst. (02) 9332 3565. Closed Mondays.

Shopping & the City

Earlier this year, a very lucky Member (Jessika) + her pal jetted off to Fashion Week in the Big Apple as Virgin Mobile's official Twitterati, tasked with keeping us in the loop 24/7 as they proceeded to shop, party and, um, shop their way across NYC.
