C.W. Stoneking - The jungle-bluesman with his faux-southern charm

Jungle-bluesman C.W. Stoneking has just nabbed himself an ARIA nomination for his album Jungle Blues.

Christopher William Stoneking was born in Katherine, Australia to American parents. He was raised by his father in the Aboriginal community of Papunya until he was 9, before moving to Balmain, Sydney. He picked up a guitar at 11 and has really not put it down since, finding a love for a pre-war acoustic blues sound from an early age.

He didn't find commercial success until 2006 when he released his first solo album, 'King Hokum', which was received with huge critical acclaim by Australian media including an ARIA nomination.

'Jungle Blues', his second album of original compositions was released in 2008 and was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize. Along with several ARIA nominations in 2009 including Best Blues/ Roots Album, Best Male Artist and Best Independent Release the album again has delivered to the acclaimed high standard set by 'King Hokum'.

He currently lives in Melbourne, and performs extensively as a solo artist and with his backing band, the Primitive Horn Orchestra. Back in 2008 he charmed a sold-out Virgin Mobile Metro with his faux-southern charm and enthralling story-telling. Check out the 30 second preview from the show right here.
