Mondo Generator, the brainchild of the rarely clothed Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age guitarist Nick Oliveri, tore The Metro Theatre to pieces in mid August.
Mondo Generator is primarily the brain child of front-man Nick Oliveri. The Californian born musician has been a part of some of music's best punk/ metal hybrid bands over the last 20 years including Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age, where he really made his place in music.
Nick Oliveri formed Mondo Generator with friends Josh Homme, Brant Bjork, Rob Oswald, and others in 1997. The name of the band originated when Brant Bjork, a band member, spray-painted the words on the side of Oliveri's Sunn amplifier.
Their debut album, Cocaine Rodeo, was recorded soon after the band formation but wasn’t released until nearly three years later due to Oliveri and Homme being full-time members of Queens of the Stone Age.
The band rarely played a live show but gained cult status among die-hard Queens of The Stone Age fans. At times Oliveri would do an afternoon set with Mondo Generator, then at night play with Queens of the Stone Age. Then in early 2004 Oliveri was fired from Queens of the Stone Age by Homme, announcing that Mondo Generator would become his full-time project. Since then their recordings have been few and far between with the recording of an acoustic record seeming very out of place.
Mondo Generator still deliver stoner metal music that drives fans into frenzy and their show at the Virgin Mobile Metro was no exception. Check out the 30 second preview from the show right here. For the full live set visit Virgin Mobile Metro TV
