Lately, we’ve seen celebrities turning to their dinner plates for inspiration, hungry to stay ahead of the fashion pack. With all the pressure to keep pushing the fashion envelope, who would blame you for cooking up something a little kooky to grab attention?
Lady Gaga’s Meat Dress
They say to sell the sizzle, not the steak. A sentiment obviously lost in translation when it came to Gaga’s infamous meat dress.
The hidden message? “If we don’t stand up for what we believe in, if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re gonna have as much rights as the meat on our bones.”
Before you traipse off to your butcher, note that it left a bad taste in PETA’s mouth. The animal welfare activists claimed the meat probably had parasites and maggots in it, posing a serious health risk to the singer.
Katy Perry’s Cupcake Bikini & Whipped Cream Cans
The official film clip for Katy Perry’s worldwide hit ‘California Gurls’ sees Perry and her posse of alarmingly tanned dancers traipsing around with their modesty covered only by cupcakes strategically placed over their – ahem – assets. Then the star herself gets all fembot on a bunch of rogue Gummi Bears using two whipped cream cans – positioned strategically over her own cans. Critics are divided over whether this is feminism subverted or just plain fluff.
Pammy Anderson’s Lettuce Bikini
Of course it was Pammy Anderson herself that started the food-as-clothing fad with her PETA campaign in 2003. You have to admit, the humble salad green had never looked so appealing as when she rocked a lettuce leaf bikini to encourage the world to go vegetarian.
